The podcast will still be free, and available on all major podcast platforms.
With travel on hold for the foreseeable future, we’ll be traveling virtually to explore human resilience and inspiration through story. We have some incredible stories coming up. I hope you’ll enjoy them.

Marisa Acocella is a cartoonist for The New Yorker, New York Times best selling author, three time cancer survivor and founder of the Marisa Acocella Foundation at the Mount Sinai Best Israel Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Ann Ogden Gaffney is a powerhouse when it comes to nutrition and cancer. In addition to her James Beard nominated book, Cook For Your Life, and cooking classes in New York, she created a joint program with Columbia University exploring food, cancer, health and wellness in the Hispanic community.
Ann’s legacy of Cook for Your Life is now run under the auspices of Fred Hutchinson in Seattle, where her work continues.
Ann has survived both kidney and triple negative breast cancer. The experiences radically changed her life. Professionally she went from a global lifestyle in fashion, to the kitchen where she became a James Beard nominated author and chef.

How does one move from fashion to food? This fascinating podcast traces Ann’s start in fashion in Paris. A stay that was supposed to last 12 months lasted 12 years.
“I learned my trade in Paris.
I also learned about food and eating.”
The daily rhythm of celebrating the food of the season, the creativity of using what was at hand, and the tie to the rhythm of the earth became part of her life. When cancer came (twice), this knowledge became invaluable.
Ann is at home in high fashion and in haute cuisine. Her book brings a healthy and approachable path to nourishing one’s body during and after cancer treatment.

Charles Porter has a story that is filled with love and wisdom. He is a poet, author, actor, trainer, husband, father and so much more. He has lived several lives in his 40 some years, hopefully with many more to come.
Charles Frederick Porter II was born in Oxford England to an English mother and an African American father from Annapolis, Md. Charles received a full athletic scholarship to Duke University. His football coach had a mantra: Never Quit.
But a back injury sidelined Charles’ dreams of professional football. So he headed for Hollywood where he was off to a successful career, appearing on popular shows and landing some significant advertising campaigns.

But then, in 2010, he was diagnosed with stage IV Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. It was a bump in the road no one could have imagined. His old football mantra became his mantra for life.

“Sometimes a bump in the road feels like its knocking you off track, but it knocked me back ON track,” says Charles. And life took a very different turn. He wrote poetry and published several books. He married and had two daughters.
“Once I knew nothing is forever, I truly started living.”
Then the cancer came back again. Immunotherapy is helping.

Notes: Walking through life at one point thinking that there was no end. When I was diagnosed with stage four Cancer my compassion and empathy intensified. That is when I truly started to love myself and then I truly started to believe myself. One I knew nothing is forever, I truly started living. Grateful to be alive.
